Lullaby For My Dog (Short)

Never really worked

One of my goals for next year is to be significantly less precious about this preciously insignificant blog. In other words, I’d like to throw more stuff out into the world (read: void) that’s obviously not quite ready for the world (read: primetime void). Readers who already question this blog’s character and quality may be surprised to learn that this would actually be a new approach, that I actually have been trying in earnest this entire time, and that all I have to show for two years of writing is 34 posts (29 unpublished drafts, lol) and a lot of subscribers who think I’m someone else (no literally, lol, an ongoing problem).

Anyway, consider this post a step in a new-ish and even less certain direction.

I wrote last week that:

The year stumbles toward its clumsy conclusion, and we would all like to get very drunk.

But that:

In the meantime, there will be music.

According the voice memo on my phone, I recorded the above, originally “New Recording 14,” on November 6, 2016. My dog was born three years later on November 5, 2019. I play this song for her sometimes. More often than not she looks idly at me for a moment, then readjusts her head and resumes her nap, which for some reason, apparently unimportant, has been interrupted.
